Dr. Mike Weaks Now Offers the Pinhole Surgical Technique – A Minimally Invasive Procedure for Patients with Gum Disease

Dr. Weaks is now helping Greenville, TX patients prevent periodontal (gum) disease via the Pinhole® Surgical Technique. This is a scalpel-free, suture-free dentistry procedure for patients who require gum surgery.

Traditionally, gum surgery is a highly invasive procedure with the drawbacks of long recovery times and excessive amounts of pain for the patients. The Pinhole Surgical Technique allows Dr. Weaks to use specialized instruments and techniques to gently loosen the tissue by making a small pinhole in the gum. The loosened tissue subsequently glides towards the new, permanent position in order to protect the patient’s dentition. This advanced procedure typically takes one to two hours and in most cases, patients can resume normal activities the next day.

What is gum recession?

Gum recession refers to the loss of gum tissue along the gumline. This can occur as a result of periodontal disease (gingivitis, periodontitis, advanced periodontitis), the natural aging process, or abrasive habits when it comes to brushing the teeth.

Why should gum recession be taken seriously?

When gum recession occurs, the root structure of the tooth becomes exposed. This means that tooth decay and other problems can affect the teeth along the gumline and beneath it. Since healthy gums are essential for a healthy mouth, getting gum recession treated is important for lasting dental wellness.

What is the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique (PST)?

The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique is a minimally invasive option for treating gum recession. Unlike traditional grafting techniques, PST is incision and suture free.
