Implant-retained (snap-in) dentures are removable dentures that clip onto two to four dental implants, so they stay put instead of relying on suction or adhesive. They typically cost $6,000–$15,000 per arch in the U.S., depending on how many implants you need. Two implants under a lower denture is the most common starting point, because lower dentures are the ones that move the most.
Implants underneath, a denture on top.
Small attachments on the implants line up with matching sockets inside the denture. Press down and it clicks into place; tip it up and it comes out.
Where they help most
A lower denture sits on a narrow ridge with your tongue pushing on it. Two implants usually turn a floating lower denture into one that stays still.
Less plate, more taste
With four implants, an upper denture can often be made without covering the whole roof of your mouth.
Sometimes we can convert it
If your current denture fits well and is in good shape, it can sometimes be fitted with attachments instead of starting over.
Out at night, cleaned daily
You take it out to clean it and the implants, just like a regular denture, and you leave it out while you sleep.
Small parts, easy swaps
The nylon inserts that grip the implants wear down and are replaced every year or so in a short visit, usually done here in our lab.
Compare full-arch implants
If you want teeth that never come out, a fixed full-arch bridge on four or more implants is the next step up. Full-arch implants →

Good candidates for snap-in dentures.
Implant-retained dentures are often a good fit if you:
- Wear a denture, especially a lower, that slips or rubs
- Use adhesive every day and still avoid certain foods
- Want a steadier denture without the cost of fixed full-arch teeth
- Have enough jawbone for implants, or are open to grafting
People who have worn dentures for many years are often good candidates. Your X-rays at the free consultation will show what is possible.

What people ask before deciding.
How much do implant-retained dentures cost?
Typically $6,000–$15,000 per arch in the U.S., depending on how many implants you need and whether your current denture can be converted. Longbranch gives you a written fee at a free consultation.
How many implants do I need for a snap-in denture?
Usually two for a lower denture and four for an upper denture. Upper jawbone is softer, so it needs more implants to hold the denture firmly.
Can my current denture be made into a snap-in denture?
Sometimes. If it fits well and is in good condition, attachments can often be added to it. If it is worn or loose, a new denture is usually the better choice. We check at your consultation.
Do implant-retained dentures come out?
Yes. You snap them out to clean them and the implants, and you leave them out at night. If you want teeth that stay in, ask about fixed full-arch implants.
What is the difference between implant-retained and implant-supported dentures?
Implant-retained dentures clip onto implants but still rest partly on your gums. Implant-supported (fixed) teeth are carried entirely by the implants and only the dental team removes them.
How long do snap-in dentures last?
The implants can last decades. The denture itself typically lasts 5 to 10 years, the inserts are replaced about once a year, and relines keep the fit snug as your gums change.
